For all Kanazawa visitors from the 1st of October 2024:

Kanazawa City has instituted an accommodation tax on all paid accommodations (hotel, hostel, Airbnb, etc.). The amount is determined by the room charge, per room, per person, per night.

• NEW, as of 2025/10/01:
  If the price of lodging per person, per night is less than ¥5,000, there is no accommodation tax.
• If the price of lodging per person, per night is at least ¥5,000 and less than ¥20,000, the tax for that person, that night is ¥200.
• If the price of lodging per person, per night is ¥20,000 or more, the tax for that person, that night is ¥500.

The tax will go toward beautification and maintenance budgets for Kanazawa’s frequently toured sightseeing spots.

Please note that guests who have prepaid for their rooms may need to pay the accommodation tax separately upon arrival.
